Intelligent disinfection robots will help fight the coronavirus.
Developed by Siemens and Aucma in just one week, from design to sample production, the intelligent disinfection robots will soon join the battle against the coronavirus and other viruses in hospitals.
“¿What can I do to support the battle against COVID-19?” Yu Qi, Head of the Siemens China Research Group for Advanced Manufacturing Automation in Qingdao, asks. As China intensified its efforts to combat the virus during the Chinese New Year holidays, she was trying to find a way to leverage cutting-edge technologies for virus control.
Urgently Needed: Disinfection Robots
Amidst an overwhelming amount of information about the ongoing epidemic, one piece of news caught their attention: many hospitals urgently needed disinfection robots to relieve people from having to disinfect high-risk areas.
Yu Qi works in the robotics lab co-established by Siemens and Aucma, where the focus is on developing special robots, unmanned vehicles, industrial robots, and smart equipment. While reading the news, an idea struck her that immediately gained support from the management team and her colleagues: to create a new type of intelligent disinfection robot.
Everyone on her team was eager to join the antivirus battle. “Hospitals and frontline staff need disinfection robots at this critical moment,” says Wang Kai, a mechanical engineer from Corporate Technology China. “Let’s do it!”
